Assistant Principal's Message

My name is Jon Ray Russell, and it is both an honor and a privilege to serve as one of the Assistant Principals at Forest Hills Elementary School. I am currently in my thirteenth year in education, with experience that includes eight years as a classroom teacher and four years as a school counselor.

Originally from Arab, I am a proud graduate of Arab High School. I attended the University of North Alabama on a cross-country scholarship, where I earned my Bachelor’s degree in Secondary Education in 2013. I later earned my Master’s degree in School Counseling from the University of West Alabama in 2019 and completed an add-on certification in Instructional Leadership from the University of North Alabama in 2025.

I am grounded in a deep belief in the power of relationships and the lasting impact educators can have on a child’s life. My passion is partnering with students, families, teachers, and the community to create a safe, supportive environment where every child can learn, grow, and thrive.

Jon and his wife, Brittany, are the proud parents of three children: Emory, Chandler, and Hudson.
